Sam's wish of having a little brother just came true! Is it wrong that I sent penis emoticons to people via text to let them know the news?

Attention to Detail, Part Two
This morning was a little bit of insanity. We were all scurrying around to get out of the door on time, and my mind was all over the place. Finally, everyone was fed, dressed, shod and jacketed and ready to go. I grabbed my coffee and my baby, stuffed my keys into my pocket, and headed out to the car. We got everyone loaded and buckled in record time, and I jumped into the driver's seat, ready to go without a moment to spare. And then I reached into my pocket for my keys...

As you can imagine, these weren't too effective at starting my minivan.

Attention to Detail
Yesterday I was in the shower when I realized that my face wash was out on the bathroom sink. Since Sam was only a few feet away watching tv in my bedroom, I called and asked him to fetch it for me. I asked him to bring me the bottle with black letters than had white soap inside. For reference, here is what it looks like:

And would you like to know what my darling, attentive son brought me? A bottle of this:

Maybe he was trying to send me a message about the cleanliness of my shower.

First Haircut
Well, it took three years, one month and twenty-five days, but we finally got Lucy a haircut.
Her ends had gotten pretty ratty, so she was getting lots of knots and tangles. It doesn't help matters that she twists her hair at night. Technically she got her first haircut last week when I had to snip out a giant knot she had created sometime in the wee hours of the morning. But that was an unofficial mom salvage job, not a full fledged trip to the salon.
There aren't many (or any) kids' salons here in Mo-town like there were back in Philly, so I was nervous. She was expecting a place with an indoor playground, televisions at every station and balloons at the end. I asked around and got a recommendation for a place that does well with kids, but it was definitely a regular old grown up salon. Luckily she did pretty well. She refused the hair washing before and blow drying afterwards, but sat stock still for the actual cutting.
In the end, she doesn't look any different. If I hadn't told my husband and parents they wouldn't have noticed. But we had a fun big girl afternoon together, just me and my Lulu, getting our hairs cut. And I think we both look smashing!

One of these has to be my best shot Monday, but I just can't quite decide. It's either the first or the last. For more BSM fun, visit Tracey Clark at Mother May I.

Can't Quite Find Home
Having my parents and a large majority of our extended family around has been more amazing than I can explain. We had almost seventy people here for Maggie's birthday party. We see some relative almost every week. My parents have been an invaluable help with the kids. Any time SOB is working the weekend they come and lend a hand. My dad has been to as many of Sam's hockey practices as I have, and he's even considering becoming a coach. Being near to family is the main reason we moved here, and I don't think there is ever a moment we regret that aspect of our decision.
And I've meet some truly lovely people here. Sure, there are the toothless redneck hillbilly types, but I've managed to steer clear so far. The moms and dads I've met at Sam and Lu's school are so cool and I can totally see myself developing friendships with them. Interestingly enough, not many of them are actually from here, but that isn't really too surprising. But it's slow going, mostly because of me. My days are scheduled to the hilt, between both school sessions, dance and hockey. Plus there is that darling little Maggie to entertain, so my social calendar is pretty empty right now.
I just feel weirdly resigned to life here, instead of really enjoying life here. I know things will change, hopefully for the better. It's not wrong, but I can't say yet if it's right. Hopefully with time we'll grow to love it here. Because it would be devastating to move away again, not just for our families, but for me as well. I want to be home.

Middle Child
She's been such a handful since she was born lately that I occasionally need shots like this to remind me of how lovely and darling she really is.

Fall?
The past few days have been cool and rainy, and all around we're surrounded by the sights, sounds, and smells of autumn. But during a break in the wet weather I went exploring in my grandparents' yard and came across this young sunflower. Sammy thought it was the giant flower from The Tiny Seed. During the first week of October, it was quite a pleasant surprise!
