Dear Nature, Get Bent! Love, Amy

Yesterday had such a promising start...

At 10:15 in the morning, SOB called to tell me he was coming home! Since not much was going on at the hospital, he could take beeper call from home and spend some time with us. Or with Sam while I went shopping ALL BY MYSELF! Like a real like grown up person! I was so elated when I returned from my retail heaven that as soon as Sam was getting nappy again, I started making bedroom eyes at the good doctor.

Well, the babe hadn't been in bed for three minutes when there was a knock on our door. Normally, to gain access to the part of the building where our door is, you must first dial us up from a call box so you can get buzzed through the outside door. Therefore, we usually know when to expect a knock on the door. We were surprised when the knockers turned out to be the roofers we had been expecting since July. Our name is on the call box, but the roofers only had our landlord's name. They had called him several times, but apparently he was too busy to call them back. Since they were in the neighborhood, they decided to swing by, and in doing so they saw that the outside door was open. Which? Time to fix the roof! Since we didn't have any real plans, and because they said it should only take 45 minutes, we figured we'd get it over with. Well, two and a half hours later, they finally finished up. We had planned on going to the grocery store and on a walk, but since it was so late, my dear sweet husband said he would do the shopping if I wanted to go to the Y. As a bonus, I could leave the baby with him so I could scope out the afternoon child care situation before actually taking Sammy there with me. (Yes, I do know how lucky I am!) At this point, things were on the up and up. I was really annoyed with the roofer doofases, but I was willing to let it go in order to salvage the rest of the night. Until I walked outside and saw this:

That's funny! It looks like that tree is coming out of my sunroof! Oh wait...

It is coming out of my sunroof. Bollocks.

And you didn't get any nookie either. Damn. We're out of town for the weekend, but then back. We'll get together then and maybe have some Fat Matt's or sushi to get over this setback.

At least it wasn't the new car.

Luckily, our car insurance covers the damage, and we're going to try and squeeze the condo association to cover the deductible since the tree is half dead and poorly maintained. Our insurance might even sue them for it, since if they had cut the damn tree down, none of this would have ever happened.

Yikes! How the hell does something like that even happen?
