First and foremost, never buy a house from a self proclaimed DIY master. Yes, a rather inexperienced person can probably install some Ikea cabinets in the kitchen with no problem. However, when a rather inexperienced person tried to install toilets, they might accidentally leave out important parts. Like the part that seals the toilet to the floor. This part, the wax ring, is so very important in preventing the soiled water in the bowl that you mistakenly assumed was just going to, you know, flush, from running out all over your floors. And down your hallway. And into the walls. Where it is then free to drip on your head.
Didn't we already go through this once?
The reason we didn't have it fixed before is because the bowl was actually overflowing, so I didn't realize that there was also water coming from the base of the toilet. And it's a rarely used receptacle, so we haven't noticed a problem. But I had to get ballsy and try to flush a g-diaper down there, didn't I?
So heed my warning. If your realtor tells you the reason the house is priced so low is because the previous owner saved money doing renovations himself...RUN!

Eeeeww. Bummer. The other trap for young players is buying what looks like a beautiful home only to find that every single appliance/fitting is nearing the end of its shelf life. >:-(
