Pop Quiz!

How on earth do you go about explaining mannequins to a not-quite-two-and-a-half-year old boy? We spent half an hour running around J.C. Penney's while Sam yelled 'Mommy! No head!' He even tried to grab one by the hand so that it could come with us. I tried and tried to explain, but he just didn't get it.

Any suggestions?

Maybe start at the Victoria's secret w/ the fake pink dogs mannequin things? Or, um, maybe that opens up another whole can of worms! ;-) The headless ones freak out my 4yo.

Oooh, that one's a doozy. Fortunately for us, those things don't generally have lights / switches / plugs on them, so they really aren't in our scope of focus. Maybe just go with the nonchalant "Yep! Headless ladies!" response? Then again, I don't want to be responsible for night terrors...

I tell Jake they are big dolls that he can't play with.

Luckily he has a lego-ish Cars (the movie) set and Mater and McQueen are always losing their heads so he is totally okay with headless things (unlike his mother).

The phrase "where's Mater's head"? is uttered at least five times a day by at least two people living in my house.

It must be a boy thing. Tell him they live in the shop and they don't want to come home with him. Then book his therapy for dealing with the rejection.
