Please Bow Down to My Husband

Last week my husband was on vacation. During that time he decided to undertake several large home improvement projects, the most ambitious of them being to build a new deck on the rear of our house. Our original situation was a three-by-four wooden platform that had three steps down where there should have been four. Here you can see the demolition of said crappy porch.

Do you see how the steps are totally uneven and that last one is a wee bit too high for a 29-year old, let alone a 2.5 year old? Also when SOB ripped it up he realized that whoever constructed this lovely structure never, um, nailed it down. Basically, the floor part was just kind of resting on the posts. A strong wind or toddler may have been enough to tip it over. Plus the portion of the posts that were in the ground had sustained some serious termite damage. That is, there was no post underground, there was only digested wood dust. The whole thing was a death trap waiting to happen.

Here you can see the mostly finished new deck, a headless SOB and Sam's tiny pants-less body. We still have to put the tops on the posts, but other than that it's all done. It's not huge, but it's big enough to fit our grill and a chair or two. Plus the stairs are much easier for a toddler (and mommy) to navigate.

And finally, here's a shot that SOB titled 'Three Great Creations.' His son, his deck, and his beer.

God I love that man.

I'm jealous. Now I want my roof deck. I'm calling Dave's boss to see if he can have the week off.

The deck looks great, too. :)

Can SOB come to my house and build a deck? Because seriously, my husband would rather die.

The deck looks awesome! Way to go SOB, what a super productive staycation. Looking forward to sitting at the bistro table and enjoying your lovely deck. However, I hope not to be headless or pantless.

Late but super impressed. Himself can barely put up curtain rods :-(
