Theme Thursday: Sad Mac Edition

Vacation has been really, really terrific. We've been relaxing and relaxing and relaxing some more.

Until yesterday afternoon.

When my computer died.

Please click this link to hear exactly how I'm feeling about that.

On the plus side, SOB brought his computer, so I'm not totally out of touch with the interwebs. And I have my phone. On the minus side, every single photo I've taken on vacation are on my computer. My dead computer. Including all of the photos I had selected for Theme Thursday.

In a very serious minus, the Apple peeps said I might be totally Fucked-with-a-capital-FUCK in regards to said computer. I backed up my photos right before we left, but I will be totally devastated if I can't get my pictures from this week back. I've taken close to 1,000, and I didn't even get to look at the ones I took today.

Seriously sad.

The worst part? We were actually planning to buy a brand spanking new computer as soon as we got back. SOB gets some monies from work for computers and software and such, and it's a use-it-or-lose-it kind of deal. The lose-it deadline is looming, and so a new computer purchase is on the horizon. If only we had done it before vacay.

I could go on and on (and on) about my sad mac situation, but what's the use? Instead, here's one of the only photos I have available that includes some family. It's from my phone, so the quality is questionable, but I love it just the same. Sam and Lulu have been having a blast with their grandparents, and the grandparents seem to be enjoying the kids just as much. When we're all in the pool, mom and dad might as well be chopped liver. It's all Nunni and Pappy, all the time.

Seriously, look at how happy they are!

I can't wait to see what you all have to share this week. I am hoping you'll be able to provide the cheering up I so desperately need!

sad trombone indeed. I hear there is a way to retrieve pics off a memory card, even if you deleted them. I know it's been done, but I'm sure there are some parameters and special rules. Might be worth looking into

I'm going to take it to the genius bar once we get home. The Apple people here said it wouldn't be done in time and suggested we wait until we're back in our hood. It'll probably cost something, but I'm secretly hoping that if we buy a new computer at the same time they'll waive or lower the fee. Probbaly a pipe dream, but a girl has to dream. From what info I can gather, there is only a small chance everything will be lost forever. The computer will be deader than dead, but the data should hopfully be retriveable.

oh, my condolences. my husband had his laptop stolen last year, so of course, lost all his data. i'm a mac person, too, and they're usually pretty good about being able to retrieve stuff....i'll think good mac thoughts for you :).

My external hard-drive shat itself last year and the ONLY, I repeat ONLY file that was totally corrupted was the one with all my photos from the previous year. Un-backed up. I now have a new hard drive, a new camera and a better back-up ethic but it's a hard lesson. Hope yours is retrievable.
Here's a family snapfor you though.

My hard drive failed a couple days ago too and lost all my photos. The data was not recoverable (the hard drive burned out - not the macbook) but luckily I was able to recover the files from the camera memory cards (even though I had already formated them in my camera).

It came with a recovery software (sanDisk). The photos aren't really "deleted' only renamed to make your camera/computer thing there is space on the card. Only once you start shooting more photos, the new photos overwrite the old files. So hopefully you haven't written over your vacation photos and can still recover them.

Here's a free recovery program you can use too that was recommended by my brother.
