Today is the Live 8 concert here in Philly, and the city is treating it like they treat a potential blizzard. They are disaster-mongering while being completely under prepared. They are expecting near 1 million people, and yet they think 700 port-a-potties will be sufficient. Then they criticize local businesses and residents for boarding up their windows and moving their potted plants indoors. I have a feeling that things will go relatively well, but we’re not going, and no one we know is going. Unfortunately, I think the majority of people attending are going to be in the 15-19 age range. I only say unfortunately because I remember when I was in that category, and all I cared about was seeing Band X for free, and not the greater social good. Hopefully, something they hear today will stick in their brains and 5-10 years from now when they are functional members of society, they’ll remember.
I actually toyed with idea of going to Live 8, but then I remembered that today we are going to a big fat Hindu wedding. Our friends Venkatesh and Neeru are getting married today, and the funny thing is that their wedding is 1 tiny block from the perimeter of the ‘no car zone’ for the concert. So traffic right around the hotel should be fun! We’ve never been to a Hindu wedding before and I am really looking forward to it. I really wanted to wear a sari, but I had no idea how to get one. Oh well! I'm sure it's going to be lovely, so I will put some pictures up in the next few days.
