First Blood

Today I heard my baby cry from pain for the first time. It was the most gut-wrenching thing I have ever heard. To make matters worse, I was the person that caused the pain. I accidentally cut little Sam's finger when I was trimming his nails. Never mind the fact that he has a big scratch on his tiny face from where he caught himself with his tiny talons. It was such a tiny cut, but there was a little blood. I waited until he was sleeping so he wouldn't be too fidgety, and the moment I nicked him, you could see his peaceful sleepy face transform. Then he let loose with this howling cry that just turned me into a quivering mess. I pulled him in close and held him tightly, but he just kept crying for what seemed like an eternity but was in reality less than 60 seconds. Once he was asleep again, I put him down and had myself a good cry. It's amazing to me the wide range of emotions I go through on a daily basis thanks to this little creature. One minute I'm laughing at his itty-bitty baby farts, and then I'm frustrated that he's always hungry, and then I'm madly in love with him as he holds my finger while I nurse him, then I'm pissed at him because he peed on me! God help this child of mine!

This picture has nothing to do with anything, but it's so mother-effing cute it makes my eyes bleed! I thought I'd end on a lighter note!
