Expert Negotiator

As my youngest begins to, literally, walk her way from babyhood into toddler-dom, I can't help but sit around and wax poetic on the loveliness of newborns. There is just something magical about those first few weeks. Part delirium, part hormones, part fierce mother love, it is a time where the touch of soft, fuzzy skin can set off a weeping jag.

Ah, the fuzz. That was always my favorite thing about my kids when they were fresh out of the oven. That pale, downy wisp of fur covering their backs and shoulders for the first few weeks. I remember holding Sam and gently sweeping my hand over his back for hours when he was a wee babe.

If you click on the image you can get a better view of the delicious baby fur.

With Lucy I didn't get to spend as much time nekkid nuzzling because I had a toddler to wrangle and a house to pack and move, but you know that whenever I got a spare moment I was running my fingers (and lips) on her bare back.
Sometimes in the middle of the night, when it was just the two of us, I would reach up her sleep sack and rub her tiny spine.

I saw SOB soften as I reminded him of these little baby details. I decided to strike when the iron was hot, so to speak, and try again to open a dialogue about having a third baby.

Was I successful? I guess you'll just have to stick around and find out!

In honor of Kristen and Rebecca, who are both having baby girls just around the corner! Go ahead and play, too! There are lots of fab prizes for a gal and her brood!

Don't count on the need and wish for new little babies to "get better," honey. There is something about them--their papery, soft skin, raw little cries, the way their little heads are so hard and hot, and covered with that soft down--that gets to me, even now. I remember the look of panic on Paul's face when I mentioned how much I wished I could have a little baby again, hehe. Not to mention Laura's scandalized, "No, Mom. You're done."

Don't forget, you've got an aunt in Minneapolis who loves babies and her favorite niece that has some!
