A Long Day Culminating in Wine Consumption

This afternoon we trekked into the city for Sam's six month ear re-check.

It didn't go well.

First off, Lucy almost got us kicked out because she wouldn't stop screaming. Even when I was throwing mini M&Ms into her loud, gaping mouth hole. Since many of the patients come for hearing tests, her incessant,-soundproof-room-piercing wails were not appreciated.

Secondly, we were there for three hours. This office isn't organized very well, so you have to schedule an appointment with the audiologist and the ENT doctor separately. Our audiologist appointment was at 2 and the doctor's appointment was at 2:50. As we were walking in the door at ten of two, they were announcing that our doctor was running 45 minutes behind schedule. Grrrr

After the hearing test was over I just ended up taking the kids out into the hall so that Lucy's crying would disturb a smaller portion of the office. A very nice lady found some old wedding bubbles in her purse and  gave them to us. That helped for about 3 minutes. Now I just had another 40 or 50 minutes to fill. I charged my ipod all morning in anticipation, but the battery died after only about half an hour. Plus they fought over it, so it was really more of a nuisance than it has been in the past when Lucy had no interest in it.

We finally got called back into the exam room only to wait again. Luckily at that point SOB got off work and came over to relieve me of Lucy. But, as a matter of course, as soon as he walked out of the door with her Sam took a huge poop.

Double grrrr.

In the back of my head I was hoping that my reward for enduring all of this bullshit would be that Sam's ears would look great and his hearing test results would be perfect. Um, guess how that worked out for me? Yeah, his ears still look like crap, are filled with fluid and his hearing is still diminished significantly. Tomorrow we schedule surgery for tubes.

I know it's not a big deal, and that lots of kids get tubes, but coupled with the insanity of the afternoon, I kind of lost it. I started crying in the waiting room when my mother called.

SOB grabbed my keys and the kids and left me to sit and wait, again, to get checked out. Half an hour later they realized that since I was called to schedule tomorrow I didn't need to be checked out.

Grrr to infinity.

I just sent SOB out to get some more wine. I have a feeling I'm going to be needing plenty.
