The apple trees are in bloom! Because we started losing sizable branches from the front tree last year as the fruit got heavier and heavier, we had to do a drastic emergency pruning. This year there are significantly less blossoms there than last year. The bad news is we'll have fewer apples come October, but the good news is that thinning out the tree makes for better pictures!
Despite majoring in biology in college and "knowing" all of the ins and outs of plant reproduction, it still never ceases to amaze me that these delicate little flowers will grow into sweet, crisp apples in a few months time. I tried explaining it a little to Sam, and I think he understood it about as well as he understands the whole baby-in-my-belly thing. Which is to say, not at all. That doesn't make it any less sweet when he talks about it, though. In fact, it might even make it more so.
It might sound silly, but accidentally acquiring these apple trees has been something of a life altering event for me. I never really understood so many simple joys before them, and I'm sure there are many, many more to come.

Those are lovely! I'll have to head out to find the apple tree in the neighborhood to see if it's blooming yet. We had a pear tree growing up and I miss that.

how gorgeous! We just don't have apple trees around Austin, but when I was younger, I lived in the Rio Grande Valley...know for their citrus. We had about 20 orange trees...I LOVED the blossoms!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane :)
Aren't apple trees amazing? And such lovely photos they make for too!
They are incredibly amazing...all trees amaze me. Those are lovely captures!
Great macro captures. I can understand the thing about the trees. It's like you inherit a legacy when you find big, old ones in your garden....
Simple beauty, simple-yet amazing-life lessons.
Gorgeous.
I love the shots! I like you am continuously amazed every spring when the plants reemerge from the ground into beautiful displays.
