Love Letters

There is a lot I could say here... I *heart* the internet sometimes for the great amount of friendship that gets spread around here. There are women here I admire from afar, like that high school crush. There are some I know face-to-face, and how I love those faces. There are the ones I'm dying to know better. These days, my 7 loyal readers know the struggles I've been dealing with, and one of the things that has kept me grounded is knowing that others have tread before me on this rocky terrain. They have walked this path and come out of it unscathed, and sometimes funnier than ever before! It gives me a little bit of hope that I might be stronger (and funnier) because of it. Or maybe in spite of it. Mother's day, despite being a "hallmark" holiday, means so much more to me now that I myself am a mother. My own mother would probably smack me upside my head and say 'duh' if she read this! It means celebrating who we are as women and mothers, not just one or the other. And that's why the idea of this love-in is so important.

When I was pregnant with Sammy, I was so worried because I had no friends with kids. I had already been reading several 'mommy' blogs and had an idea of what I was in for, but who would I call at 3am when the baby wouldn't sleep, or to ask if problem X was normal? Through this wonderful world wide web I met some amazing women and moms who have now become a part of my daily life, both virtually and actually, and I can't even begin to explain how they've enriched this day-to-day existence of mine. There are some ladies out there who I've just started communicating with, and the friendship potential is so big, I can barely contain myself!

It just makes me so happy to have found a community where women can lift each other up, instead of tearing each other down. We should all be proud of who we are and what we create, weather we're talking about our children, our writing or our friendships. Happy Mother's Day!

What a lovely ode to community, and to the moms and others that form this community.

So glad that you did this post, so that I could discover your blog!
