Butterfly Kisses

I have a very patient and thoughtful husband. Because he was acutely aware that my feeling were leaking out of my eyeballs last week, he let me off the hook with most parenting duties over the weekend. Breastfeeding aside, he took care of most everything. On Sunday afternoon, I was feeling remarkably better, and when Sam was rousing from his nap, I went to get him. I was missing me some baby, and he must have realized it. Instead of nursing, he just nuzzled up against me and cuddled me for a few minutes. Then he looked up at my face, and without a thought I bent down and fluttered my eyelashes on his cheek.

He paused, and put his hands on the sides of my face. I watched as he studied my every feature. Then, so gently, he took one tiny finger and ran it over my lashes. And then again. With a warm grin, he pulled me back in close to him and lined my eye up with his cheek. This time, when I batted my eyes, he squealed with delight.

We played this game for almost ten minutes. Perhaps the best ten minutes I've had in months. I wish there was some way I could make him comprehend what those moments meant to me. Will always mean to me.

Someday Sam will stumble across this blog, archived on the internet, and he'll know how special he is.

I hope he finds this some day. I just hope he doesn't also find the picture I posted of his teeny ass cellulite!
