And It Begins...

Last weekend Liz's lovely little baby girl Sage was born. I couldn't wait to hear all about it and see pictures of the teeny lady, and there might have been a tear or two when I finally caught a glimpse. But soon thereafter, those tears of delight turned to tears of panic. Panic which has yet to diminish.

A few weeks ago, MIL mentioned having a small baby shower for numero dos. After consulting some online etiquette sites, I decided that this wouldn't be earth-shatteringly rude and agreed. Aside from the double stroller, which my parents offered to buy for us, we don't need anything major. I won a super cool sling, so really all we need for her is some non-boy clothes and jammies, and maybe a few diapers. Well, last weekend MIL informed me that the baby shower plans have fallen through, and mentally I flipped a little.

Yesterday my mental flipping went into overdrive, as people at the commercial shoot kept asking Sam's age. While I repeatedly answered 'fifteen months' I started to do some math. If he's fifteen months old now, and he'll be eighteen months old when F2 is born, then I only have three fucking months left to plan for this child!

I started to make a mental list in my head of all the little things we are going to need prior to August. This list did me absolutely no good later on when I was in Target, simultaneously the most wonderful and awful place on the planet for an expectant mother. I randomly walked up and down baby aisles, throwing anything small and pink into my cart. Onsies, jammies, diapers, swaddle blankets. Then, because I was feeling guilty about buying so much stuff for the yet-to-be-born child, I moseyed on over to the toy department and picked out something little for Sam.

Twenty minutes later, I was $125 poorer. The kicker? The only reason I had gone there in the first place to buy Sam's teachers gifts for their Appreciation Week. Which I forgot.

Oh she'll be an August baby! Peridot is the birthstone. The only reason I know that is because I have a peridot pendant I haven't used for anything yet.

It's those darn hormones. They make people all crazy. I hope Dr. SOB is doing his part to relieve the freak outs...

I can only tell you you don't need anything but diapers. Seriously - you know I had the same panic and besides the non-boy clothes, you're set. Anything else you can run out for, or have amazon send you overnight.

Or in the immortal words of Frankie: Relax!

Liz - just knowing that you are already out there on the blog path gives me immense hope! Thanks!

Des - do not fear...besides talking me down every now and then, he's been a real trouper when it comes to running out and fetching me ice cream! Peridot is my SIL's birthstone, too! She's so excited because she loves the stone and now she has someone else to buy it for.

To add to the "sage" advice of mom101, don't forget that there are at least a few of us who are dying to load you up with pink and frills. If you go out buying one of everything, what are we left with?

P.S. Doesn't the Atlanta equivalent of Acme carry gift cards? If so, grab one, a box of muffins and a bouquet of Daisies, and viola, Teacher Appreciation Week done!
