Happy Birth Day

Today is my Sammy's birthday! My darling boy turned two at 11:05am, officially. I totally wept a little even though I was in the car. Imagine how much blubbering there would have been if I had actually been with him! I was, however, on my way home from buying a huge bunch of balloons. What can I say? The boy loves how Curious George rides the balloons, so this just about blew his mind.

The best $8.95 I've ever spent

As much as today is a celebration of Sam, in some ways I feel like it's a celebration for me as well. Every glance at the clock takes me back in time. At 1:59pm two years ago I was just getting to my recovery room, and I was mother effing starving. They had just taken my new Sam to the nursery, so I finally had a minute to realized that I hadn't had anything to eat in over 24 hours. Naturally, they were finished serving lunch. Bastards. Someone got me a cold, nasty cafeteria cheeseburger and I gobbled it up like it was fillet.

Just before bed last night we played Ring Around the Rosie, Sam and me. Round and round, we laughed and got dizzier and dizzier until we couldn't even get up anymore. Down on the floor, I grabbed him and pressed his little chest against mine. My heart was pounding and my stomach was quivering, almost like it had two years prior when my water broke.

I kissed him a million times then, once each for every giggling dizzy day to come.

Happy birthday Sam! Balloons are by far the best deal for the amount of fun they have with them...although bubble wrap may give them a run for their money. ;)

I remember that feeling well. The memories of the day fade over time...but the kisses never do.

I still can't believe my baby is two! My folks got him a big bunch of balloons, too, and he was in his glory!
